125: Tummy Aches, Tears, and Panic: Anxiety in Kids.

    2026/03/12 | 23 mins.
    Anxiety Masterclass tickets here: www.stephaniepinto.com/anxious-masterclass

Ever stood in the school car park while your child clings to you, pleading they canโ€™t go in, and thoughtโ€ฆ is this ever going to get easier?

Or your teen is shutting themselves away in their room, refusing to go to social gatherings or other activities (that you know theyโ€™d probably LOVE)?

Iโ€™ve been there. My youngest has, too. And yes, even as someone who teaches emotional intelligence and anxiety strategies, I still questioned myself in those moments (a lot).

Today I'm sharing our story, from tearful mornings to the small victories that actually matter. I also dive into a few things parents often donโ€™t realise about anxiety: why tummies hurt, why constant reassurance can backfire, and the thinking patterns of anxious brains. Plus, a story moment from a Caribbean stage where I realised Iโ€™d finally made it past the worst of my own anxiety (spoiler: it felt amazing).

This episode is honest, real, and practical. Youโ€™ll get hope, a few gentle strategies you can start using immediately, and a reminder that anxious kids donโ€™t need fixing, they need understanding and the right tools.

124: What to Do When Your Child Is Overwhelmed: The ABCs of Co-Regulation

    2026/03/06 | 39 mins.
Ever had a moment where your childโ€™s reaction felt way bigger than the situation? ๐ŸŒ‹

A small thing turns into a huge meltdown. Logic doesnโ€™t land. Consequences do NOT work. And youโ€™re thinking "what am I supposed to do right now?" This is for you!

Today Iโ€™m joined by Elizabeth Sautter, a speech-language pathologist and author who has spent nearly 30 years supporting neurodivergent kids, families and educators. Sheโ€™s also a mum of two neurodivergent (grown up) kids, so everything she shares comes from both professional experience and real life.

Elizabeth introduces a simple framework she uses with families called the ABCs and 123s of co-regulation. It helps parents understand whatโ€™s happening in a childโ€™s nervous system when emotions run high, and what actually helps in the moment.

Because when kids are overwhelmed, itโ€™s often not a discipline problem. Itโ€™s a regulation problem.

In this episode we talk about:
โœ… Why behaviour is often a signal, not the real problem
โœ… Why reasoning with a dysregulated child rarely works (weโ€™ve all tried though)
โœ… The power of pausing before responding
โœ… How your calm nervous system helps regulate your childโ€™s

I also love Elizabeth's metaphor about kids learning to ride emotional waves. "Our job isnโ€™t to stop the waves, but to help them stay afloat while the feelings pass."

She created a free resource for listeners called the Get Regulation in Real Time Toolkit, with practical tools to support kidsโ€™ emotional regulation at home or school. Grab it here.

121: The Secret to Raising Cooperative, Emotionally Resilient Kids

    2026/02/06 | 38 mins.
Psst... Scroll for the link to my book on emotionally intelligent parenting!

What if parenting didnโ€™t have to rely on punishment, guilt, or constant power struggles? Yep. Really.

Today I'm actually the one being interviewed! My friend Amy Nesbitt had me on her podcast, Whole Wellness Mamas, and we unpacked what emotional intelligence parenting really means, and why itโ€™s so different from the old-school approaches many of us were raised with. This is the conversation you get to hear today!

    Amy and I talk about:
Why punishing โ€œbad behaviourโ€ is SO outdated, and what actually helps kids become cooperative
How honouring childrenโ€™s emotions builds connection, trust, and resilience
What it looks like to model emotional regulation instead of expecting kids to โ€œjust calm downโ€
The power of rupture and repair, taking responsibility, apologising, and rebuilding connection
Why emotional intelligence parenting takes intention and discipline, but works for so many families
How parents can start noticing their own emotional cycles BEFORE reacting
Expanding your emotional vocabulary so you can respond, not explode
