Over the years I've had sponsors, and I've had the privilege of sponsoring others. My journey hasn't been a straight line, but through setbacks and fresh starts, I've found a genuine relationship with my higher power. I'll talk about trusting God, practicing prayer and meditation, working the steps, staying connected to my higher power, sponsor, and trying to do the next right thing. One day, and sometimes one moment, at a time. My hope is that the share brings encouragement to anyone, new or long-timer, that spiritual growth is available to all of us, one day at a time.

In my mind’s eye I played and replayed scenes in which I was plucked magically from the crack house where I stood licking a pipe and was instantly exalted to some posi- tion of power and prestige. I lived in a dream world. The 12 steps and fellowship led me gently from this fantasizing to embrace reality with open arms. And I found it beautiful! For, at last, I was at peace with myself. And with others. And with God.

My story involves recovery from traumatic circumstances, with addictions to substances as well as codependency along the way.
David came into recovery through alcohol and drugs but over time realized he was always replacing one thing with another. Recovery was no different. When the substances went away, the fear, shame, and need for validation didn't. They just showed up in different forms. In this meeting David shares his experience with addiction hopping, codependency, trauma, and the process of learning what was underneath all of it.

About RECO12
An Addiction Recovery Lunch-hour Speaker Meeting. A new guest speaker from any 12 Step fellowship who is actively working in recovery, will speak for 25 minutes each week on a specific recovery topic. This will be followed by a moderated 25 minute Q & A session from the live audience. The live speaker meetings will be held on Zoom each Friday at 10:00 AM Pacific time. To attend the live recordings and have the opportunity of asking questions of the guest, please send an email to reco12pod@gmail.com and request to get on the invitation list. All aspects of recovery will be covered, including but not limited to: Steps, Blessings of Recovery, Relapse Prevention, Sponsoring, Specific aspects of recovery, What to do if I relapse, etc. We invite each guest speaker to seek guidance so they can reflect the light they have been given in order to inspire hope, meaning, growth and worth in each of us, the listening audience. Reco12 is an open-to-all addictions and afflictions organization, dedicated to exploring the common threads of the differing manifestations of alcoholism; sharing tools, and offering hope from those walking a similar path. We gather from diverse backgrounds, faiths, and locations to learn and support one another. Our speakers come from various fellowships and experiences, demonstrating the universal principles of recovery. Reco12 is not allied or affiliated with any specific 12 Step fellowship.
