  • Why Saying “No” Can Be the Most Loving Choice - The Reality of Self-Care When Life Feels Like Too Much
After a brief (and very human) pause, we’re back in the studio — messy, honest, and real as ever. In this episode, Jill and Linda open up about the curveballs life’s been throwing lately — from broken dryers and blind cats to Easter chaos and toddler meltdowns. You’ll hear what happens when our well-intentioned self-care plans fall apart and how we find little wins and grace in the middle of the muck.Whether you’re navigating a season that feels "extra" or trying to meet your family’s needs without losing yourself, this episode is your reminder that it’s okay to not have it all together. We're not here to fix it all — just to talk about it, laugh through it, and walk with you in it. In this episode, you’ll learn:Why life lately has been anything but predictable — and what that’s taught us about flexibilityHow “simple moments” are becoming our most powerful form of self-careThe emotional weight behind constantly needing to say “no” — and what to say “yes” to insteadWhy planned self-care can sometimes feel heavier than it’s worthA gentle reframe: self-care for your kids might actually be self-care for youHow to meet everyone’s needs (including your own!) without needing to do it all perfectly This episode is for the human who’s in the thick of it — decision fatigue, interrupted naps, helmet battles, and all. You’re not failing if you don’t have it all figured out. You’re living, learning, and loving through the mess. Let this be your reminder that sometimes, the most powerful self-care is simply giving yourself permission to be human. Look for what’s working. Say no when you need to. And give yourself credit for showing up anyway. For a simple way to start with self-care, send them an email or connect with Jill on socials @mamaoutspoken and mamaoutspoken.com and Linda @hellolindabonney or lindabonney.comReady to start living your dream life? • Is Self-Care Exhausting You?
Ever feel like the very act of planning self-care becomes another exhausting task on your to-do list? In this candid conversation, Jill and Linda explore the surprising paradox many moms face: sometimes our pursuit of self-care creates more pressure than relief. From decision fatigue to disappointment when plans fall through, we unpack why self-care sometimes feels like just another burden—and how to shift your approach for genuine restoration instead of more exhaustion.Episode Highlights:Delayed Exhaustion Is Real: Your body doesn't always process strain immediately. As Jill and Linda discovered, sometimes the exhaustion from challenging events hits hardest two days later—making preventative self-care even more important than reactive care.Decision Fatigue Matters: The mental load of deciding what self-care you need can itself become draining. As Linda points out, "Making the decisions to do self-care is exhausting," especially when you're already depleted.Flexibility Prevents Disappointment: When Jill's planned self-care night was canceled due to snow, she pivoted to a simpler alternative—early bedtime. Learning to adapt your self-care expectations helps prevent the emotional drain of disappointment.Quick Decisions Can Save Energy: Linda demonstrates the power of decisive action when she's depleted: "Toasted sandwiches for dinner, Bluey for the kids, and 30 minutes with my book." No overthinking required—just a rapid shift to protection mode.Self-Care Gets Easier: Both hosts agree that while self-care felt exhausting during early motherhood years, it becomes more intuitive and energizing as you develop your practice. What once drained you can become your source of restoration.Moving Forward:If you find yourself exhausted by the very thought of self-care, you're not alone—and we have solutions. The raw conversation explores how to navigate the melty feelings that follow moments of visibility while balancing the needs of those around you.Key TakeawaysVulnerability requires recovery time - After putting yourself in the spotlight or reaching a milestone, your emotional reserves need replenishing. Both hosts share how they experienced this following their 100th episode celebration.Others' reactions can complicate your self-care - Linda opens up about the challenge of practicing self-care when those around you might feel confronted by your success or achievements. Navigating others' reactions while honoring your own needs requires careful boundaries.Children can be perfect self-care buddies - Both hosts find that immersing themselves with their children after emotionally demanding events provides natural self-care. Reading, singing, and simply being present with kids offers genuine connection when you're feeling vulnerable.Plan buffers around big moments - Schedule intentional recovery time before and after putting yourself out there. Whether it's quiet time alone or joyful connection with loved ones, anticipate your needs in advance.Recognize when melty feelings belong to someone else - An important skill is differentiating between your own emotional needs and those of others around you. While you can offer support, you aren't responsible for managing everyone else's feelings.Moving ForwardThe vulnerability that comes with putting yourself out there is worth it, even when the recovery isn't perfect. • Celebrating 100 Episodes of the Mucked Up My Self-Care Podcast
The 100th episode of the mucked up my self-care podcast certainly aligned with our vision and realities. From technical hiccups to sick children in the background, our 100th episode celebration embodied everything the Mucked Up My Self Care Podcast stands for – real, interrupted, and beautifully imperfect self-care. Join hosts Jill and Linda as they reflect on their two-year journey, sharing vulnerable moments and profound revelations that have shaped not just their podcast, but their approach to motherhood, entrepreneurship, and self-care.Key TakeawaysSelf-care doesn't require perfection. Through 100 episodes and nearly 40 hours of recorded conversations, Jill and Linda have discovered that self-care isn't about yoga retreats and spa days. It's about finding small moments throughout your day – even while picking up dog poop barefoot in the grass – and embracing the interruptions rather than fighting against them. We're all "born" alongside our children. As Jill beautifully reflected, "I was born at the same time that my son was born as a mom." Each new phase of motherhood requires a rebirth, learning to process emotions and prioritize ourselves in entirely new ways. This perspective gives us permission to be beginners again and again.Creating your village is essential work. The podcast itself has become a form of community care, bridging the gap for mothers seeking connection. As one listener noted, "It took a while to create a village because I couldn't find a village." This shared experience of searching for and building support systems validates the struggle many mothers face.Reliability comes in unexpected forms. Despite the chaos of life with children, recording 100 episodes across 677 days has become a source of reliability and self-care for both hosts. Their weekly conversations have fostered friendship, accountability, and a space to prioritize themselves amid the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship. Our approach to self-care evolves. From basic needs like showering in the early postpartum days to embracing "rage vacuuming" as a legitimate form of emotional release, the hosts have expanded their definition of self-care. These evolving perspectives remind us that self-care looks different in different seasons.Keep Unstucking Your Muck!As we celebrate this milestone, we invite you to join our self-care village for the next 100 episodes.
