    EP53 – Liver Physiology | Anaesthetic Primary Topic | Gastrointestinal | CT10

    2026/07/17 | 51 mins.
It's been a bit of a break between episodes, but I have been on paternity leave. Today we start our new topic of 'Gastrointestinal Physiology' looking first at Liver Physiology. This is a big topic to cover and an equally important organ. I start with addressing the functional anatomy (01:43). Then this allows us to appreciate the many functions of the liver (06:48) followed by reviewing hepatic blood flow and the factors that control it (19:33). The last LO for today is assessing the laboratory investigation of the liver (31:52). Finally, we look at the previous SAQs (and cicm is really good for this!) (39:50). As always thanks for listening!

    EP52 – Ultrasound & Neuro-monitoring | Anaesthetic Primary Topic | Equipment & Safety | CT10

    2026/05/25 | 42 mins.
In today's final 'Equipment and Safety' topic I cover the much-loved topic of Ultrasound with a small part on neuromonitoring (to add onto Ep38) with a focus on SedLine.  First, we go through the principles of USS (01:18) followed by a review on the mode of doppler (14:58). I thought I would touch on SedLine today because we have previously reviewed BIS but now this is becoming increasingly popular and may even be asked in the future (20:49). There are only 2 SAQs to go through at the end (25:48). As always thanks for listening!

Time for another 'Live Practice Viva'. Thanks to Robbie for doing this and Derek for coming back to be a examiner!! I hope you get some technical and non-technical skills from the video. As per previous episodes we covered four topics which were: Desflurane (06:23), Phenylephrine (011:23), Haemostasis (16:23) and Lignocaine (21:23).  We then go through some feedback. Hope you guys enjoy and thanks for watching! As always if you have any feedback let me know at anirudh@sweetdreamsanaesthesia.com

    EP50 – Suction & Scavenging, Electrical Safety & Diathermy | Anaesthetic Primary Topic | Equipment & Safety | CT10

    2026/03/25 | 1h 4 mins.
In today's Part 2 of 'Equipment and Safety' I cover "Suction & Scavenging, Electrical Safety & Diathermy." This was a much longer episode then anticipated! I start first with reviewing suction (01:06) then scavenging (08:23) with an additional part on environmental impact (14:53). Then we go into detail regarding electrical safety in the theatre (19:29). To end our LO's I look at how diathermy works (34:55) and LASER (41:55). Luckily there weren't many SAQs to cover today (47:55) but they all have low pass rates. Thanks for listening!
