And if we can’t be perfect, then we’ve been taught the way to get there is with shame and self-deprecation. In truth, perfectionism is just a way we protect ourselves from the way we talk about ourselves if we don’t get the results we want on the first try. So most perfectionists at their core just have poor relationships with themselves so they don’t even try so they don’t have to face what they believe to be the “Truth” about themselves.
