My Vote Counts heads to court over political party donations
Non-profit, My Vote Counts, wants political parties to be forced to fully disclose all their donations and it has gone to court over the matter. It is going to the Western Cape High Court today --- seeking an overhaul of the Political Party Funding Act, as amended by the Electoral Matters Amendment Act which they say is not meeting its constitutional goals of transparency, openness, and accountability. Currently, political parties don’t have to disclose donations that are under R100,000, and individuals can donate up to R15-million per year to a party. The non-profit argues that in its current form, this means that individuals and multiple related companies can make donations just under the R100,000 threshold without being disclosed. EWN's Lindsay Dentlinger is following the story.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
