In this episode, the second of our "3-6-9" series to shine a light on the more obscure documented experiences out there, we delve into one of the most bizarre lesser-known cases of paranormal activity. Rancy Venum, a young girl who experienced a series of strange episodes that lead her family to seek help, but in doing so they experience a profound transformation that raises questions about identity, the nature of possession, and the complexities of grief. To guess at the supernatural forces at play would be simply that, a guess... however we at least have evidence of the psychological and social dynamics at play, which may give a hint about the link we've touched on many times, that of reality and belief, in the context of the other side.

On today's show, a lifelong fear of the paranormal followed our listener from childhood into adulthood, shaped by years of experiences they could never quite explain. After moving to the other side of the country, and falling in love with an old Victorian house full of history and character, they genuinely hoped these events wouldn't follow. Today’s Dark Realm has sincerely been one of my favourites to create.
The Forbidden City, a vast imperial complex that for more than five centuries housed emperors, concubines, servants, guards and some of the most closely guarded secrets in Chinese history. Behind its enormous red gates lies a place shaped by extraordinary wealth and power, but also confinement, rivalry, punishment and death—and according to generations of folklore, not everyone who entered those walls ever truly left them. In this episode, we explore three of the Forbidden City’s most enduring ghost stories, and for the first time I'm not convinced my ranking of each ghost is correct. The Forbidden City seems something very different from the previous Realms we've entered.
