Today, I answer a mum who felt bad after successfully sleep training her daughter. Why do people feel guilty? How can you make sure that your sleep coaching goals, reasons, and the sleep training method you choose are aligned with your values and won't make you feel guilty?I explore these questions in my workshops: Sleep Training Decoded and Guilt-Free Goals. Bedtime limits and peaceful parenting
One more storieeeeee! Pleeeeease! How can I say no? I could choose a very short one and be done in no time! Am I mean if I deprive my own child of such a small favour? Alright, let’s give in. He will be quiet after the story… What??? Now a lullaby? That’s it you ungrateful little brat, I am leaving the room!Does it sound familiar? Let me tell you what helps me holding my limits during bedtime. Spoiler alert: it is confidence. Because you can be confident that you can hold a limit about not telling one more story. Because NOT telling a story is, well… really easy. And the best things is: peaceful parenting is just a by-product!If you would like to comment on this episode or if you would like to discuss it with me or with other listeners, go to my blog!Would you like your own questions to be answered on my show? A simple trick to make sleep training easier
Sleep training is one of the most demanding parenting situations. But it is especially important to stay positive and calm around bedtime, because being harsh can stress your children and make it more difficult for them to fall asleep. Today I talk about a study that showed that reducing clutter and chaos in our homes increases our ability to stick to positive parenting, thus it can probably make it easier for us to stay peaceful when setting limits around bedtime too! It was especially interesting for me to learn this as I enrolled in the Parenting Junkie’s year-long parenting course, Present Play, where this month we experienced how reducing clutter and chaos improves the behaviour of our children too. I would say, less chaos = win-win :)You can find the dissertation I was talking about here (Suzanne Marijke Andeweg: Unravelling the effect of household chaos on parenting, 2021): https://scholarlypublications.universiteitleiden.nl/handle/1887/3147171If you would like to comment on this episode or if you would like to discuss it with me or with other listeners, go to my blog!Would you like your own questions to be answered on my show? How to deal with the three most common springtime sleep problems?
Spring means that the days are longer and that influences our sleep and our children’s sleep.
