In this episode I have the pleasure of exploring Guy's journey from Cape Town to London's vibrant hair scene. As the artistic director at Cobella Salon and an educator with Hair In Motion, Guy's story is a testament to stepping out of your comfort zone for career growth.

EP306: How to Know When It’s Time to Make a Change, with Patrick Marrow
In this episode, we catch up with Patrick Marrow, owner of the Whitworth Street Creative Studio Group. I want to learn how HiveMCR evolved during the pandemic to become a new membership-driven business that empowers freelancers. Was there a particular moment that Patrick knew when it was time to make a change?
With a shift in people's preferences to how they want to work after the second lockdown, there was a realisation that led Patrick to reassess his business goals. In our conversation he reveals the thinking behind the membership-driven and incentivised model his new business has adopted.
Patrick highlights the benefits of this membership-driven model, including brand autonomy for stylists and the opportunity for them to create their own career paths while still providing traditional salon amenities.
Community is crucial at the Whitworth Creative Studio Space, and Patrick emphasises how to foster unity among freelancers. Additionally, we hear how the business plans to host makers markets and involve professionals from different industries.
He wraps up the podcast by speaking about the importance of normalising failure and highlights the value of personal connections. Patrick shares his own experience of pivoting during the pandemic, which led to personal growth and a more relaxed approach in life.
So here's the thing to come out of today episode. If its not working, don't be afraid to change!

EP247: “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” with Dale Ted Watkins
“NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” (Weird title, I know). But let me tell you that's the name to the recent hair collection created by one of the most iconic names from the world of mens hairdressing and barbering, Dale Ted Watkins.
A collection that explores and captures on film people who may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression. It plays homage to what todays very special guest Dale Ted Watkins sees as the 'NEW MAN'.
For over 30 years Dale Ted Watkins has spent pushing forward the boundaries of men’s hairdressing in the UK. Cutting the hair of his celebrity clients, styling on fashion campaigns, music videos, magazine shoots and as an educator with Dale's training company CITYBOY, Dale certainly knows his stuff in mens hairdressing and fashion cultures.
I invited Dale on to the show today to not only get his enigmatic story within the industry, but to also get a deeper understanding into the history of British youth culture through hair and fashion. He explains brilliantly on understanding how hair are the signals to our gang affiliations. For Dale, it's having this depth of knowledge and curiosity that continues to push his creative boundaries forward. Something we see in his recent “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” and 'Alt Skin' collections.
As Dale says about “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” collection, "There was “ANOTHER” sex in town and I wanted to explore and capture this on film. The phenomena of Genderqueer or, non-binary. People who may express a combination of masculinity and femininity, or neither, in their gender expression. I wanted “NO SEX WE’RE BRITISH” to feel and reflect this “NEW” open mindedness of a young open minded society."
This is a genuine Top of the Pod's banger. Hit play to hear why!
