The HoneyDew has officially reached 400 episodes and this one is a celebration of everything the show stands for!

My guest is Shapel Lacey, who over the years and has talked about one of the most important people in his life, a mentor and therapist named Chip Chilton.

Through an amazing fan of The HoneyDew, Chip reached out to us. We passed his information along to Shapel, and after more than 15 years without seeing or speaking to each other, Shapel and Chip reconnected. Now, for our 400th episode, they’re sitting down together for an incredible full-circle conversation.

We talk about childhood, abuse, trauma, anger, confusion, love, mental health, therapy, and what it’s like trying to make sense of life when no one ever gave you the tools to understand it.

We talk about finding comedy and humor in trauma and darkness, the healing power of music, learning how to communicate as men, and accepting that no matter how far you’ve come, you’re still a work in progress.

Most importantly, we talk openly about men’s mental health and therapy and why asking for help, talking about your feelings, and working on yourself doesn’t make you weak.

This episode is everything The HoneyDew has always been about - Highlighting the Lowlights and finding the humor in the darkest parts of life, and it doesn’t happen without you!

Comedian, actor, and American Ninja Warrior host Matt Iseman joins me this week on The HoneyDew to Highlight the Lowlights of leaving medicine for comedy, becoming a father at 55, and living with rheumatoid arthritis.

Matt talks about growing up with a father who became a world-renowned expert on tuberculosis and following in his footsteps by going to medical school and training in internal medicine.

He opens up about making the huge decision to walk away from medicine to pursue stand-up comedy and why he believes comedy comes from either “the hugs you got or the hugs you didn’t get.”

We also talk about Matt becoming a first-time father at 55, what that experience has meant to him, and how his perspective on life has changed.
