Slam The Gavel welcomes back Dawn McCarty to the podcast. Dawn is a criminologist, cybersecurity strategist, author and behavioral threat specialist. Dawn returns with an expanded investigative lens and her new book series that can be found on Amazon: "Unsealing the Crime Scene."
     Drawing from her lived experience as a childhood abduction survivor, Dawn examines coercive control, attachment manipulation, identity disruption and the weaponization of children in high-conflict family systems. Her work asks a difficult question: What happens when the child's developing mind becomes the crime scene?
     We also discussed her chapter in the recently released book, "Warning! Children Are Not Weapons.

Slam The Gavel welcomes back Hope to the podcast. Hope was last on in August 2023, Season 4, Episode 141. Today she reflected back on the murder of her adult daughter and how she got involved in the court system and realized she had to be a voice for her daughter. Hope watched the impact of the theater of Criminal Court and the judge having the final say asking, 'where are the kids going to go?' However, he was well aware of the placement of her grandchildren. Hope then found herself in Family Court.

Slam The Gavel podcast welcomes James Johnson, a father from San Mateo County, California. His daughter died by suicide on July 4th, 2026. He had been alienated from his daughter and spent years battling in court for the ability to see her. He describes experiencing extreme financial and litigation abuse throughout the court process, including the removal of custody without, what he believes was "sufficient cause."
     James had not seen his daughter for approximately two years until the hospital contacted him and let him know what happened on July 4th, 2026.
     James then had to file an Emergency Request with the court simply to be "allowed" to see his deceased daughter and say goodbye for closure. The mother opposed his request and argued that ANY visit should be supervised and limited to 15 minutes. After going back and forth, the judge ultimately ruled, granting him a "Supervised" 30-minute visit with his deceased daughter.
     Now James has had to file another motion which is set to be heard on September 2nd, 2026 at 9:00an PST before Judge Novak in Department 12, the 2nd floor. This father is requesting that her ashes have a final destination where others can go to grieve. James Johnson is asking for in-person court watchers and/or on Zoom.

Slam the Gavel welcomes new guest, Colin Chenery, author of, "Six Circles of Mindfulness, Living Life Fully Through Present Moment Awareness." Colin wrote "Six Circles of Mindfulness," as a personal framework for mindfulness that was developed during his travels through the Himalayas and Japan. His book offers practices for awareness, presence and an inner balance through daily life. 
     We discussed practices of meditation, counseling and coaching as well as how therapists help families through very difficult times. Getting people who are struggling through hardships to the other side, with guidance and positivity.
