The Battle of Soor, Fredrick's Near Defeat
On the night sept 29, 1745 Fredrick the Great and his army of approx 22,000 encamped in the bohemian countryside. With the weather getting cooler and the campaigning season coming to a close Fredrick prepares orders for his army to move back towards the Silesian border and enter winter quarters. But when the sun comes up on Sept 30th, it reveals guns on the heights above the Prussian camp. During the night an Austrian army of almost 45,000 moved in on the Prussian camp and now sits ready to strike.In today’s episode we explore how Fredrick the Great and his army attempt to claw their way out of the jaws of defeat.
