  • Mina Presents: It Wasn't All That Bad, Evangeline Young's New Record
Hello vampire hunters! Mina is back with a quick message for you all. She's here to share the news about It Wasn't All Bad, the new record by singer-songwriter (and Mina Van Helsing actress) Evangeline Young! Evangeline has spent years working on this record, and it's just a final big push of work away from being done. She's raising funds to help get to the finish line, and would love your help getting there. If you enjoyed Evangeline's work in DTDM, check out the campaign and donate a bit to help her out if you can. (Or help to spread the word about it!) But please hurry - the campaign ends this coming June 14th! * * * Here's a bit more about the album in Evangeline's own words: Hello! My name is Evangeline Young, I’m a singer-songwriter and actor living in Brooklyn, NY. It’s with a lotta joy and gratitude and knee slappin’ happiness that I’m announcing…I made a record! It Wasn’t All That Bad is my first full length solo record–I began recording it in 2020, and finished earlier this year. This album has been a long time coming. I’m so excited to finally be able to share these songs and the incredible work of the talented folks who made it with me. I’ve been singing and playing guitar since I was a kid, and started writing songs a little later into my teens. It felt like a superpower to me—taking an experience or a feeling and shaping it into a lyric or a melody. Since moving to NYC in 2017, I’ve played solo as well as collaborated with many of the incredible musicians in the music community here. It’s in those rooms with those people that these songs grew–and me right along with them. In a time of so much fear and isolation, a community of people coming together to sing, to express themselves and to hear each other is a deeply healing thing. It’s a gift to be a part of, and to contribute to. The songs on It Wasn’t All That Bad (with the exception of the song “Home” written by my brilliant brother Noah Young) were all written over the course of a few years in my early 20s. I was learning a lot of weird, good, hard lessons (ain’t that just the way of the early 20s) and doing a LOT of growing, both as a songwriter and as a person. It’s a record about the hazards and great beauty of open heartedness. It’s about moving through hard things with people you love and walking out on the other side to a new view–one with a little more breathing room, some boundaries, and a perspective you couldn’t have found any other way. A view that allows you to look back on all those experiences and go “MAN. That was really hard, and I didn’t know, but now I know a little more and…it wasn’t all that bad.” Writing these songs gave those experiences a place to go. They’ve served as reminders for me. All I could hope for in sharing them is that they can be places to go and reminders for you, too. Thank you, thank you, thank you for considering a donation. I really mean it when I say any amount you are able to contribute is meaningful and deeply appreciated. Sharing the link to the campaign and spreading the word is incredibly helpful too! I couldn’t have made this record without the community of people who invested their time and talent and belief into helping me make it, without the friends and family who gave me many encouraging pep talks along the ups and downs of the process, without every person who continued to ask “When’s the record coming dude?? We wanna hear it!” It’s because of all of you that this record is done and sounds as good as it does. Thank you for being a part of this community.  I’m so proud of this record, and I really can't wait for you to hear it. The gratitude I have could fill the Grand Canyon.  With Grand-Canyon-sized love and joy and gratitude, Evangeline  * * * Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • Count Dracula Presents: Hit Singles, the New Series by Gabriel Urbina & Co.!
He's back... Count Dracula has returned from the dead! And he's here to share important news! There's a new audio fiction series called Hit Singles, made by Dracula: The Danse Macabre creator Gabriel Urbina and frequent collaborators Zach Valenti and Sarah Shachat! It's a romantic comedy all about friendship, love, the struggles of trying to make it in a big city, and loving music way too much. You can listen to the show over on Audible. If you have an Audible Plus membership, you can listen to it at no additional cost. (And if you still have a free trial, you can listen to it for free for 30 days!) Within the show's episodes, you'll hear a lot of familiar voices from the world of podcasting - lots of alumni from previous Long Story Short shows and from our beloved sibling series like The Bright Sessions. Best of all, you'll also hear Evangeline Young, DTDM's Mina Harker, in the lead role! It was a real labor of love put together by an amazing team, and we'd love to help it find as wide an audience as it can. So please check it out, and, if you love it as much as we think you will, please leave a rating and a review. Here is the official description for Hit Singles: From the creators of the hit audio drama Wolf 359 and with original music by Jeremy Warmsley comes a modern story about friendship, love, and chosen family starring Evangeline Young (Emergence), Nicholas Podany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Simone Policano (Blue Bloods), Julia Rehwald (Fear Street), Briggon Snow (Masters of Sex) and a full cast. A captivating listen perfect for fans of New Girl and High Fidelity. When struggling DJ Faith Adler comes to couch surf with her best friend Tori in NYC, she finds herself drawn into the world of Tori's eclectic friend group. Right from her chaotic first night, Faith's new friends take her under their wing and help her navigate the ups and downs of trying to make it as an artist in the big city. There's Tori, the bubbly one; Ginah, the high-strung but loyal one; Matt, the flirtatious one; and David, the cynical one. Tori and Ginah's apartment becomes a sanctuary where lasting bonds are forged over late nights, drink-filled conversations, impromptu dance parties, and the occasional Sense and Sensibility marathon. Falling in love definitely isn’t part of Faith's plan, but that all changes when she meets David, a former law student (and current bartender) who has recently come to the conclusion that romance is for suckers and sworn it off altogether. From the moment they meet at a New Year's in the Summer party, their will-they-or-won't-they chemistry is electric. As Faith and David grow closer over whiskey-soaked nights and heart-to-heart talks on the fire escape, their flirtation deepens into something more meaningful. Are they friends? Lovers? Romantic partners? Casual sex acquaintances? The answer is, simultaneously, all and none of the above. Let the overthinking commence! With rich character development and an ensemble cast that feels like friends you've known forever, Hit Singles deftly balances comedy, romance, and poignant drama. It's a beautifully rendered celebration of the family we choose, the cities that choose us back, and the life-altering power of human connection. * * * Learn more about your ad choices.
