Episode 29 - Kavanaugh/DeFranco murders, PART 2
My name is Ed Franks and I'm from Paterson, New Jersey. Thanks for joining me today. Today's podcast is Part 2 of the Judy Kavanaugh/Gabriel “Johnny the Walk” DeFranco murders of 1966. In February 1966 the body of a Clifton housewife was found near the Garden State Parkway. The medical examiner determined that she had died of a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation centered around the husband, Paul Kavanaugh until another murder took place in Paterson in October. Three men visited a small-time mob guy named Gabriel “Johnny the Walk” Defranco at his apartment of Fifth Avenue. When DeFranco stepped outside to talk to them, one grabbed him from behind, while the other slit his throat. The police would link these two “separate” murders into one case involving wife-swapping, counterfeiting and of course, murder. This is Part 2 of the investigation.
