  • Is My Friend Pulling Away or Just Busy? (Couch Talks)
Amber sent us an email about something we’ve all felt. That little spiral when a friend takes forever to text you back and you start wondering if you did something wrong. Amy & Kat talk about how our brains love to make up stories, and how we won't know what's really going on unless we ask them. Amy immediately relates to this listener and shares her experience. They also make up some fun, new acronyms that might come in handy when you're starting to spiral. Speaking of acronyms, is it not cool to text 'lol' anymore? Apparently, it's "ick" along with no-show socks. Ugh. Watch us on Youtube HERE! • Criticism (Part 1 of How Relationships Begin to End: The Four Horseman)
This is the start of a 4 part series of Amy and Kat unpacking Dr. John Gottman’s famous ‘Four Horsemen of the apocalypse’ for relationships which has helped him be able to predict the failure or success of a relationship with a 90% accuracy rate. Part 1 is Criticism, the one that often shows up first and sets the tone for conflict. Amy has her own issues with getting defensive and even gets her boyfriend on the phone to confirm. Kat explains why criticism is different from a simple complaint, how it sneaks in through exaggeration, “should” statements, jokes, and tone, and why it can actually be a clumsy bid for connection. You’ll learn Gottman’s antidote, the Gentle Start-Up, with clear “I feel / I need” examples to help you express concerns without blame. Whether you’re married, dating, or navigating family and friendships, this episode will help you spot criticism early and swap it for communication that keeps relationships strong. Feeling of the Day: Angry (and Kat has every right to be!) Listen next week for: Defensiveness (Part 2 of How Relationships Begin to End: The Four Horseman) Watch us on Youtube HERE! • Write Your Story: The Purpose of Failure
Have you ever felt derailed by failure in your life? Perhaps it was the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, a public embarrassment, or a mistake that cost you more than you felt ready to lose. Or maybe you don’t experience failure much. It’s possible you tiptoe around failure, making sure that you’re never too far out on a limb so as not to fall. In that case, you might feel blocked or stuck, too insulated to experience failure but too protected to receive real freedom or joy. In today’s episode I talk about failure: why we avoid it, how we survive it, and how to make meaning of failure in our lives. I normalize it, de-stigmatize it, and invite you to do something that might feel counterintuitive to you; to move toward failure, rather than away. What might failure be trying to show you in your life right now? Host: Ally Fallon // @allyfallon // allisonfallon.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • What's God Got To Do With It?: "Help! My brother Is an Addict!"
Leanne is back with Scott and Ketric for another episode of our "Ask the God Pod" series. This week they tackle a question many newcomers to faith share: What does prayer look like? In this episode of "Ask the God Pod," Scott and Ketric are back to tackle a listener's heartfelt question about coping with the immense stress of supporting a loved one struggling with addiction. For over two decades, this listener has been on a turbulent journey alongside her brother, who battles alcoholism.
