Based on the novel by John Steinbeck, it sees successive generations of two families in California destined to reenact the fateful story of Cain and Abel, and is streaming now on Netflix.

Our latest guest on Soundtracking is legendary screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who joins Edith to discuss his new film, The Social Reckoning, which he also directed. Starring Mikey Maddison, Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong, it's a dramatisation of the 2021 Facebook leak by whistleblower Frances Haugen and investigative journalist Jeff Horwitz. It's scored by friend-of-the-show, Alexandre Desplat.

The movie in question is Extra Geography, and Edith was joined for a Q&A after a special screening by director Molly Manners, writer Miriam Battye, producer Sarah Brocklehurst, and its two extraordinary young stars, Marni Duggan and Galaxie Clear. Based on a short story by Rose Tremain, Extra Geography explores the relationship between two teenage girls and best friends at boarding school in England.
