When Crabbe and Goyle decide to prank Slytherin's prince by slipping him a love potion keyed to the last witch he'd ever want, Hermione Granger, Muggle-born know-it-all and general thorn in his side, Draco Malfoy assumes he's in for the worst week of his fourth year.
There's just one problem: Goyle can't brew toast, let alone Amortentia.
The potion is useless. But Draco doesn't know that. Neither does Hermione, who's been dosed with the same rose-scented water and is furiously researching why the symptoms don't match any known formula.
Convinced they're under magical compulsion, both start paying attention to each other because it doesn't count if it's just the potion, right? The watching becomes noticing. The noticing becomes something harder to explain. And as the Yule Ball approaches and half of Hogwarts competes for Draco's attention, he can't seem to look at anyone but her.
The excuse is perfect. The logic is flawless. The only problem? There was never any magic.
