Welcome to Your Movie Rocks, an Alternate Ending podcast hosted by Mandy Albert. For every episode, Mandy will watch a movie assigned by her guest host, followed by a lively discussion. There's only one rule: no matter what the movie does to her, Mandy is only allowed to love it.
This month, we welcome back our first three-time player Andrew Milne, who has once again selected a movie that neither Mandy nor most of our listeners ever would have sought out on their own: Imaginaerum, an 85-minute music video for Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Come along on a wild CGI roller coaster ride as Mandy and Andrew gamely try to pronounce "Imaginaerum," gamely avoid pronouncing most other Finnish names, and get into deep subjects like death, aging, memory, and scary snowmen. Also, we have a digression on sexy blood-red dresses.
July 2026 Movie Preview
2026/06/30 | 1h 20 mins.
The Alternate Ending team is trying to beat the heat during this sweltering summer by looking forward to spending some time in a nice, air-conditioned movie theater. Brennan is joined by Gavin and Caleb to chat about the new films of July 2026, of which there are honestly not that many. But perhaps the lack of quantity will be matched with an uptick in quality. To kick things off with the movie roundtable, Gavin tackles the bizarre and potentially misguided French animated gay satire Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer, Brennan has a chance to catch the subject of a previous preview episode, the Australian gay-themed horror film Leviticus, leading to a deep dive into the good and bad of metaphor-driven cinematic storytelling, and Caleb does not watch a gay movie, but it is pretty politically charged: the recent Palestine 36, shot in the very shadow of the ongoing war in Gaza.
Bride of AE - Honeymoon (2014)

For our final episode on Newlywed Horror, Tim and Brennan break down the most explicitly honeymoony movie of them all, Leigh Janiak's HONEYMOON! Love the Podcast? Leave us a review! Labyrinth at 40
2026/06/09 | 1h 32 mins.
June 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the Jim Henson cult classic Labyrinth, and the team decided that it was a perfect opportunity to take a look back at this beloved example of dark fantasy. We're also taking it as an excuse to compare and contrast the state of children's media then and now, and to that end, Tim is joined by Cameron and Mandy, our two main experts on child development, and in Cameron's case, '80s movies. Before turning to Labyrinth, Mandy brings the recent buzzy film Obsession to our movie roundtable, while Cameron brings the recent buzzy film The Sheep Detectives. By request of Patreon supporter David G, Tim is looking at a pair of Canadian animated short films by Ryan Larkin, Walking (1968) and Street Musique (1972), which are neither recent nor buzzy, but are both quite amazing studies of movement and music.
Your Movie Rocks: 1941
2026/06/02 | 58 mins.
June's Your Movie Rocks welcomes back Zev Burrows, who has used his guest power to achieve two very important tasks at once: first, he has made himself a true Steven Spielberg completist by assigning both himself and Mandy the storied director's 1941, also known as The Spielberg Joint Almost No One Likes. He has also given Mandy the dubious privilege of perhaps being the only person alive who has seen 1941, but not Raiders of the Lost Ark. Tune in to hear various theories on what the hell Steven thought he was doing with this film, how much of it actually works, a highly educational digression on John Williams, and why Zev is already gearing up for a second viewing.
Alternate Ending was formed when three friends realized they all shared a passion for movies. Our goal is to save you time and money by sharing our thoughts and recommendations on which movies to race to theaters for, which to watch at home and those to actively avoid.
What makes Alternate Ending different from other film podcasts? Well, we're not 5 dudes in a room talking about our passion for Fight Club and Braveheart. We're two dudes, and a lady, of which our tastes are quite varied. Rob, the film-school dropout, has seen an absurd amount of movies, and if we're being honest, rounds out our Fight Club fan-base. Tim Brayton, our seasoned film critic, shares a more critical view of film, an appreciation for vintage cinema and perhaps limited-release movies that we might otherwise miss. Carrie, our casual movie-goer, reminds us all that cinema is in fact supposed to be fun and entertaining and that sometimes, just sometimes, happy endings are good.
Too many film sites cater to the same kind of audience, with one overwhelming voice in the writing, but what we treasure at Alternate Ending is diversity: diversity of opinion, diversity in belief about what film should do and how it should do it. We want to celebrate our different opinions, and celebrate yours as well.
This isn't a podcast for people who just want to talk about the latest hot new movies in theaters right this minute. This is a place for people who can't get to the theater until the third week a film is out; a place for people who just want to find something great to stream online after the kids have gone to sleep, a place for people whose favorite pastime is to grab a bunch of classic films on DVD from the library and watch them all weekend. It's a place that believes that every great movie is a wonderful new treasure, whether you see it the night of its premiere or fifty years later. It's a site about discovering good movies... one bad movie at a time.
Join us for our weekly review of movies worth seeing, worth avoiding and our Top 5 lists – and don't forget to play along at www.alternateending.com.
