• Jesus Is Risen!

  The Pharisees have done all they can to get rid of Jesus and they thought that they had finally won. That is, until the 3rd day, the Sunday, when an angel rolled the stone of the tomb away. The Pharisees made up a story, but the story we celebrate on Easter Sunday is the one we heard from the disciples and the women about Jesus coming alive again. But which story do you believe? They went near him, held on to his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said, “Don't be afraid! Tell my followers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”11 While the women were on their way, some soldiers who had been guarding the tomb went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 So the chief priests met with the leaders and decided to bribe the soldiers with a lot of money. 13 They said to the soldiers, “Tell everyone that Jesus' disciples came during the night and stole his body while you were asleep. 14 If the governor[a] hears about this, we will talk to him. You won't have anything to worry about.” 15 The soldiers took the money and did what they were told. The people of Judea still tell each other this story.Today's Questions: How do you work out whether what you hear is true or lies? How can this story be a comfort to you when you think about death and how might this story bring you sorrow when you think about death? Scientists might say that coming alive again after dying 3 days later is impossible. What might you say to them?

• Jesus Chooses To Die

Today you will join me in paradise.” Bible Passage: Mark 15:1-47 Along with Jesus, they crucified two criminals, one to his right, the other to his left. People passing along the road jeered, shaking their heads in mock lament: “You bragged that you could tear down the Temple and then rebuild it in three days—so show us your stuff! Save yourself! If you’re really God’s Son, come down from that cross!” Today's Questions: What are your thoughts about Jesus not defending himself? How does your heart respond when you hear this story?

• Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane

  After Jesus had his final meal before he died he went to The Garden of Gethsemane with some of his disciples. This episode is all about what went on there, highlighting the cup which Jesus requested to be taken away from him. What would have happened if God had agreed to Jesus' request? Bible Passage: John 18:3-11 3-5 Judas had promised to betray Jesus. So he went to the garden with some Roman soldiers and temple police, who had been sent by the chief priests and the Pharisees. They carried torches, lanterns, and weapons. Jesus already knew everything that was going to happen, but he asked, “Who are you looking for?” They answered, “We are looking for Jesus from Nazareth!”... Bible Passage: Luke 22:51 51 “Enough of that!” Jesus said. Then he touched the servant's ear and healed it. Bible Passage: Mark 14:50-52 50 All of Jesus' disciples ran off and left him. 51 One of them was a young man who was wearing only a linen cloth. And when the men grabbed him, 52 he left the cloth behind and ran away naked. Today's Questions: What do you do when you don’t want to do something that you have to do? What do you think might have happened to the world if God had told Jesus that he would take the cup away and that he didn’t have to die for the world’s sins?

But Jesus intervened: “Kings like to throw their weight around and people in authority like to give themselves fancy titles. It’s not going to be that way with you. Let the senior among you become like the junior; let the leader act the part of the servant. Today's Questions: What is the difference between doing chores because you have to and doing chores because you choose to? Why would you choose to do chores voluntarily?

They brought the donkey and its colt and laid some clothes on their backs. Then Jesus got on. If a king rode into town on a donkey it was a symbol of peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Many people spread clothes in the road, while others put down branches which they had cut from trees. Some people walked ahead of Jesus and others followed behind. They were all shouting, “Hooray for the Son of David! God bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hooray for God in heaven above!” When Jesus came to Jerusalem, everyone in the city was excited and asked, “Who can this be?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” Bible Passage: Zechariah 9:9 Bible Passage: Luke 19: 39-44 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!” But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.” Today's Questions: Why did the people lay palm branches and their cloaks on the ground for Jesus? Why do you think Jesus wept for the people who were doing these kind things? What would you have done if you were there?
