We all know what it’s like to fail, to hide, or to wonder what God thinks of us when we’ve fallen short. In 1 John 2:1–2, John reminds us that while Christians are called to pursue holiness, our hope is not found in our performance, but in Jesus Christ.
When we sin, Jesus stands as our Advocate before the Father — not excusing our guilt, but pointing to the work He has already accomplished on the cross. Because He has fully dealt with our sin, we can come to God with confidence instead of fear.
This grace is completely free to us, but it came at an immeasurable cost. And the more we grasp what Christ has done, the more we are moved not to take grace lightly, but to love and obey Him with grateful hearts.
