#182: Miami's Preseason Ranking - Good Possum Face
Toast's nephew is officially on campus at UM getting ready to play baseball for the Canes, Roman's daughter is his hero, and Metallica's potential residency at the Vegas sphere has us all pumped up for this week's show. And as camp officially opens down in Coral Gables, Mario appears to be more calm and relaxed going into the season, a different vibe from the last few seasons. Scoop is big on Carson Beck as he's begun watching him throw, and as such we debate Phil Steele rating the Miami Wide Receiver room as #23 in the country. Mario enters year #4 with some big expectations for Toast, even though Scoop feels like even if he falls short again this year his job is still secure. And Danny Kanell had some terrible opinions about Miami going into the season - an easy job for an obnoxious FSU guy - but it's so off base that it becomes comical. Plus we somehow get into the kicking competition at camp and how nervous we are after losing an automatic kicker like Andy Boregales. The Wheel of Topics this week includes another WNBA dildo-throwing incident and what it will take for that to eventually stop... even though we find it hilarious. Plus the cancelling of Howard Stern at SiriusXM has been a long time coming despite an amazing career, President Trump butchering Tua's name during a press conference, the NFL's "ban" on smelling salts, and Louisiana's new law where slow drivers could face jail time. And this week's Five Questions includes products designed for clueless consumers, celebrity rebrands that actually worked, things we'd throw on the WNBA floor if we were up to no good, the one thing that would kill our enemy if they were granted immortality, whether or not we'd support a social media ban for young kids, what animal would be the rudest, and what celebrity would look better after plastic surgery.00:00 Welcome to Chapter 182 01:01 Random Conversations and Humor 03:46 Down to Greentree 07:12 Football Analysis and Predictions 27:29 Kicking Competition and Special Teams 35:38 Partners and Sponsors38:37 Sex Toy Incident at WNBA Game 44:54 Howard Stern's Career and Controversies 48:43 Trump's Sports Fitness Council 49:48 Presidential Fitness Test Memories 51:48 NFL's Smelling Salts Controversy 53:51 Louisiana's New Driving Laws 56:13 Five Questions SegmentThis episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped. #181: Miami Camp Preview - Little Rock Hillary
No chapter number from Toast, Roman has a new favorite whiskey and Scoop hasn't eaten... we get off to a strong start this week as everyone is a bit out of sorts. And we were all pleasantly surprised by Happy Gilmore 2, especially due to the great cameos and all the hilarious appearances by our favorite golfers. Plus we quickly get down to Greentree with news of Carson Beck making the Maxwell watch list, and how confident Roman and Toast are going into Notre Dame in Week 1.As we dive into the Week 1 predictions, Roman knows the specific box that Carson Beck needs to check in order for him to be successful all season. Scoop also wants to know if the guys think this is the best offensive line since Mario has been here. We look at the list of coaches on the "hot seat" going into the season, and while it didn't include Mario, Miami is still a factor due to the big losses the last few seasons. Plus a conversation about Carson's efficiency numbers over the last few seasons and how great he was with receivers at UGA who couldn't catch the ball.Toast runs down the ACC media member rankings by predicted finish, with Miami falling in at #2 behind Clemson who got the most first-place votes by a mile, which we disagree with. Scoop brings up the Deion Sanders story and how forthcoming and humble he's been about a tragic situation after his bladder removal, and how more people could learn from his level of transparency. This week's wheel of audio includes Ichiro's shot at the Miami Marlins, the fan who threw a neon green dildo onto the floor during a WNBA game this week, and the Savannah Banana who face-planted live on CNN. Plus Roman's Five Questions includes the best ways to relax, what actor would kill it in a superhero movie, things that have us concerned about younger men, traits we admire most about our partners and the sexiest song ever created.00:00 Introduction and Opening Banter 01:21 Whiskey Adventures 05:17 Happy Gilmore 2 Review 10:27 Football Talk: Notre Dame Game 14:10 Carson Beck's Potential 18:44 Offensive Line Analysis 21:59 Coaching and Media Predictions 41:02 Clemson's Surprising First Place Votes 42:30 Deion Sanders' Battle with Bladder Cancer 48:04 Hilarious Sports Audio52:44 Five Questions Segment01:15:17 Naming the EpisodeThis episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped. #180: Miami at ACC Media Days - It'll Melt Eventually
We open the show with the slew of celebrity deaths that landed on us this week, but none harder than the passing of Hulk Hogan, who was a global icon on one of the biggest levels. Of course everyone was bummed about Ozzy's passing, and the tragedy around Malcom Jamal Warner, as our childhood quickly died off this week. But we pivot to Miami at ACC Media Days, with great audio from Mark Richt sitting down with Carson, and Carson's comments about why he chose to leave UGA for Miami and how that revolves around the offensive talent. Mesidor also has some high praise for new DC Corey Hetherman who is letting them "play free and play fast." Francis Mauigoa had more great things to say about the "wall of Mirabal" and how hard the offensive line works.Plus we get an epic report from our old friend IP Daley from ACC Media Days, as he takes down the ACC media and of course the Florida State Seminoles. And one of the more interesting rankings this week came from the Athletic who ranked the Power 4 conference schools by their value, based on revenue and over worth, and Miami came in at #24... but some of these other schools on the list cleared a cool billion.Stories of the week include the guy who got arrested for credit card fraud at a Chuck E Cheese, while dressed AS Chuck E Cheese! We have to play some of the hilarious audio from South Park's season premier with Donald Trump and Satan, Scoop sounds off on Phil Mickelson's bad take about Scottie Scheffler (and the worst takes we've ever had on the show), and the Browns video guy who fell in the lake during their new helmet reveal. And Roman's Five Questions this week include what we'd do with a magic potion, things that make us roll our eyes every time we hear them, the difference between confidence and arrogance, our wrestling name and finishing moves, and what animal we'd bite the head off of.This episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped. #178: Miam's EA Player Rankings - Wisconsin's Suing Over Our 6th Best Corner
How we start the show with a conversation about "scrotox" is beyond any of us but sure enough that's where things begin this week. But we quickly get down to Greentree and Toast jumps right into the EA College Football 26 rankings for the key players across the roster. And as we really look at the numbers, it's amazing how far off-base some of the EA evaluations are, especially on offense. Plus everyone has a good laugh at the rating of the secondary, especially since Wisconsin is suing Miami over Xavier Lucas who rated out as our sixth best cornerback according to EA. We also dive into ESPN's ACC rankings, because we are floored that FSU came in at #5 on their preseason list. And we have to take a look at Joel Klatt's list of the teams most likely to make their first College Football Playoff, and how the defense is going to make all the difference on whether Miami gets there or not. Scoop also discusses his theory that Shannon Dawson's best season last year had nothing to do with him, it was all on Cam Ward, which brings us some discomfort about what he'll roll out this season. The Canes got another big flip, as Mario flipped 4-Star CB Brody Jennings from Michigan... but for some Canes fans that isn't enough. The concern remains that hometown kids from South Florida are committing to other schools and Miami continues to miss out on these big local prospects. Congratulations also goes out to Jai Lucas for putting together a potential Top 20 Basketball class and completely rebuilding the roster. And with Roman out, Jenners takes to the Wheel of Topics to bring together a round of Five Questions with the topics of the week. That includes Deion Sanders and Bill Belichick being given fake generic names in EA College Football 26, and what fake names we've used or loved in the past. The Kentucky Punter that got a ZERO toughness rating in the game leads us to a question about where we post zero's in our own lives. We also bring in the best audio of the week of an enormous golf fight that went viral this week, followed up with a question about the biggest fight we ever got into. The Florida man who stole a Conch train in Key West leads us to the last thing we stole. And after Scoop's nightmare day, things we do to calm down on terrible days.00:00 Welcome to the Mario Era Chapter 17800:53 The Never-Ending Summer 01:06 COVID Chronicles 03:10 Scrotox: Botox for Your Balls 08:16 EA College Football Ratings 11:29 Miami's Offensive Line Analysis 14:05 Defensive Line and Linebackers 15:23 Cornerbacks and Safeties 23:10 FSU Roster and Rankings 33:35 Coach Cristobal's Preseason Watch List 36:09 OBB Partners and Sponsors40:08 Recruiting and Local Receivers 42:54 Upcoming Football Season 47:48 EA College Football Coaches 50:08 Kentucky Punter's Toughness Rating 51:54 Golf Course Fight 01:00:20 Florida Man and Meth-Fueled Conch Train Ride 01:04:53 Concluding Thoughts and Rough DaysThis episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped. #176: Big Miami Expectations - Parlez-vous Chicken Fingers
We are all finally back from vacations and the crew is back together for the first time in a month! Scoop immediately has stories to share from his trip to Paris, including how kind the French were in comparison to the people in South Florida. He also offers up his opinion that French cuisine, while it is held in such high regard, is actually really awful. As we get down to Greentree, Scoop catches up with some of the topics of the previous weeks, including potential All-Americans and ceiling-floor guys in the running back room. Plus Scoop wants to know how we would feel if this Canes offense this season looked like Michigan from two years ago, and it draws a very mixed reaction. Everyone also wants to spend some time celebrating the Panthers winning their second consecutive Stanley Cup and the amazing audio of Barcov knocking on his neighbor. And the Wheel of Topics takes us from Dereon Coleman's statement about having Cam Ward potential, Giants QBs Tommy Devito and Jaxson Dart's aspirations to go on "Love Island" and a serial farting dart player. And Roman's Five Questions returns, including who's the best villain, the stupidest thing we've seen someone pay for, something that instantly brings us back to our childhood, the best thing we've ever tasted, and our Star Wars themed bars.00:00 Welcome to the Mario Era Chapter 17600:19 Scoop's European Adventure 04:08 French Cuisine Debate 11:13 Recruiting News and Positional Breakdown 16:05 Miami Hurricanes Offense Analysis 23:09 Disneyland Paris and Typhoon Lagoon 34:53 South Florida's Hockey Dynasty 41:08 Movie Reactions and Cast Impressions 42:21 Darien Coleman Interview 43:22 Quarterback Transfer Portal Discussion 45:00 Love Island and New York Giants Quarterbacks 47:26 Pro Darts Player's Flatulent Warfare 53:57 Greatest Villains Ever 56:06 Stupid Purchases and Childhood Memories 01:01:45 Best Food Experiences 01:05:30 Star Wars Themed Bar Names 01:08:12 Podcasting Reflections and Miami CampusThis episode is presented by Paul Bange Roofing, the Miami Hurricane Team Store, BeatinTheBookie.com & Manscaped.
