8 Mistakes New Stylists Make That Cost Them Clients
The Inside Stylists Podcast: Episode 166 8 Mistakes New Stylists Make That Cost Them Clients Show notes for today's episode are here In this episode, I'm sharing the most common mistakes I see interior stylists make and how to avoid them. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, I know how easily things can go wrong on a shoot, especially when you're not fully prepared or clear on the client's brief. I talk about everything from overstyling and ignoring feedback to building strong industry relationships. I also share some personal stories (including one involving salt beef sandwiches!) to show how these play out in real life. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, this episode is full of practical tips to help you improve your styling career and keep clients coming back for more.  enjoy! Freestyling Friday with Emma Morton-Turner A few things we covered in this episode : Preparation is crucial; it accounts for 80% of the work. Feedback must be taken constructively, not personally. Asking questions is essential for clarity in briefs. The physical demands of styling are often underestimated. Building relationships in the industry is key to success. Mistakes are part of the learning process in styling. Maintaining professionalism can lead to rebooking. Networking can open doors to new opportunities. What Really Happens on an Interior Shoot
The Inside Stylists Podcast: Episode 165 What Really Happens on an Interior Shoot  Show notes for today's episode are here Ever wondered what really goes on during a photo shoot? In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing exactly what a typical shoot day looks like for an interior stylist—early alarms, car Tetris, flower market mayhem and all! I take you through my whole day—from the 4:55am coffee-fuelled start, right through to the 7:30pm collapse on the sofa. I talk about what it takes to prep, pack, and style each shot, how I keep the day on track when curveballs inevitably pop up, and why I always bring emergency snacks. You'll hear how I work with the photographer, client and assistants to make the magic happen, how I handle those unexpected creative requests mid-shoot, and why flexibility is one of a stylist's biggest strengths. It's a fun, full-on day—and in the end, totally worth it when everything comes together and the client says, "That's the one." If you've ever styled a shoot, you'll recognise the madness. And if you haven't yet—this might just prepare you for what's to come.  enjoy!
