  • Episode 18 - How To Drink Alone with Jake Sears (Pub Manager) and Mrinal Mohanka (Dial-A-Drunk)
Drinking alone is arguably more stigmatised than eating alone.  But is it possible to have a conversation surrounding the joy of drinking alone, and not just the problematic anti social behaviours surrounding it? In Episode 18, I talk to two people who have two different perspectives of drinking alone.  Mrinal Mohanka is a serious bar goer and creator of Instagram account, Dial A Drunk, which chronicles drinking in some of the best bars in the world — Mrin approaches drinking from the perspective of a curious cocktail lover.  Jake Sears, pub manager and drinks guy has plenty of experience from the other side of the bar, having had over a decade's experience creating and serving drinks in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. 'How To Eat Alone' is a podcast that explores the uncelebrated art of eating alone, whilst also looking at topics surrounding loneliness and aloneness, (which, contrary to popular belief, are not the same thing).  With every episode, I’ll share a recipe for one.  This episode comes with a recipe for a dirty martini served with a gilda (for one, obvs).  Find out more about 'How To Eat Alone' here.Find out more about podcast host, Julia Georgallis here.Music Ben BeinyWhat's Cookinghttps://www.premiumbeat.com

  • Episode 17 - Keeping Secrets with Sophia Luu (Designer/Founder of Secrets Worth Sharing) *Trigger warning*
*Trigger warning* Contains themes of childhood sexual abuse and trauma. Please take care of yourselves when listening to this episode. In Episode 17, I talk to designer Sophia Luu, a Vietnamese British designer who's work focuses on difficult and taboo subjects.  Sophia founded the organisation Secrets Worth Sharing that advocates for better and more open discussions surrounding childhood sexual abuse.  A survivor herself, Sophia talks about how to both share and receive secrets better and how we can have more frank conversations as a society to help people carrying around dark secrets feel less alone.  Also includes some pretty delightful discussions about oxtail pho and the joy that comes with pimping up packets of instant ramen. You can find out more and donate to Secrets Worth Sharing here: https://www.secretsworthsharing.com/'How To Eat Alone' is a podcast that explores the uncelebrated art of eating alone, whilst also looking at topics surrounding loneliness and aloneness, (which, contrary to popular belief, are not the same thing).  With every episode, I’ll share a recipe for one.  This episode comes with a recipe for a decadent oxtail pho and a guide to tarting up ramen. Find out more about 'How To Eat Alone' here.Find out more about podcast host, Julia Georgallis here.Music Ben BeinyWhat's Cookinghttps://www.premiumbeat.com

  • Episode 16 - The Anthropology Of Eating Alone with Mukta Das (Food Anthropologist)
In Episode 16, I talk to food anthropologist, Dr Mukta Das. Mukta’s work concerns commensality and hospitality, but in order to get the full spectrum of these topics, she must also study the opposite of these, which is eating alone. We discuss whether eating with other people is really as good as it supposed to be and the challenge of studying eating alone in an academic setting... 'How To Eat Alone' is a podcast that explores the uncelebrated art of eating alone, whilst also looking at topics surrounding loneliness and aloneness, (which, contrary to popular belief, are not the same thing).  With every episode, I’ll share a recipe for one, although this one doesn't have one because I encourage you to order yourself a takeaway...Find out more about 'How To Eat Alone' here.Find out more about podcast host, Julia Georgallis here.Music Ben BeinyWhat's Cookinghttps://www.premiumbeat.com

About How To Eat Alone

Loneliness and aloneness are not necessarily the same thing. 'How To Eat Alone' is a cookery podcast exploring the uncelebrated art of eating alone. Each episode is published alongside recipes designed to be cooked and eaten by one person and one person only, because, let's face it, most recipes are written for two or more people to enjoy. Cook along whilst you listen and think of this podcast as your dining companion. Podcast produced by Julia Georgallis. Artwork by Jessica Hart
