May 19, 2025 Daily Reading- Read the Bible in 1 Year
Thank you for joining me as we learn about the connection between Passover, First Fruits, Shavuot (pronounced shav-oo-oat) and Pentecost. As part of understanding and observing the festivals that God has appointed for us to observe, we count the Omer (pronounced oh-mare) today and then have our daily Bible reading session! Here is the link for a downloadable devotional if you would like to count the Omer for yourself. It has been put out by the Messianic Jewish Congregation Shoresh David in Florida: https://www.shoreshdavid.org/download/counting-the-omer-booklet/Today's reading comes to us from the Book of Jonah and 2 Kings Chapter 14:25. Today we will read the story of Jonah and see him try to run away from God, not wanting to bring a message of repentance to Nineveh because he knew God would be compassionate, kind, loving, slow to anger, and forgiving of the people and he didn't want the people to be forgiven. He wanted them to receive judgment for their sins. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about being like Jonah ourselves, trying to run away from God when we don't want to deal with something and wanting people to get what they deserve, rather than desiring to be compassionate and forgiving toward people. We will talk about Jesus showing compassion for those who were hurting him on the cross, praying for God to forgive them because they didn't know what they were doing. We will read God tell Jonah today that He has a right to be compassionate on people and animals, too, because He made them!! We will read 1 Peter 3:8-9 today, being reminded that God does not act slowly as we understand slowness, but God is compassionate, slow to anger, desiring ALL PEOPLE to come to repentance; He doesn't want anyone to perish in His great judgment! We will be reminded of our recent reading in Joel, where God tells us that even in the last days people can still come to Him! God desires mercy! He is so merciful and compassionate and forgiving of us. He sent Jesus to die for all of our sins so that everyone who believes in Him will not die, but have eternal life with Him. Let's tell everyone about our loving, kind, compassionate, forgiving, patient God who loves us and wants us to come to Him and be saved!
