Second "half" of The Aeneid with new invocation of the Muse. Mirrors the Iliad theme of war. Aeneas lands in Latium at the mouth of Tiber. Initially all goes well, but then the gods stir up war over a woman - also mirroring the Trojan war. Aeneas' mom, Venus, asks Vulcan to make him new armor, especially a shield - like Achilles' mom obtained for him in the Iliad. Aeneas' shield has the future of Rome depicted on it - he carries his race's future on his shoulders. Themes include: destiny, glory, brave spirit, conquest, civilization.

The Aeneid, Books 4-6
We discuss Virgil's Aeneid, books 4-6.Correction: The Declaration of Arbroath only discusses descent from "Greater Scythia by way of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Pillars of Hercules." It is the Historia Regum Britanniae that mentions direct descent from Aeneas.
