The Alisa Childers Podcast

The New Apostolic Reformation has become increasingly influential in churches, worship music, conferences, and even politics—but what exactly is it, and how can Christians recognize its teachings?

In this episode, I’m joined by filmmaker Brandon Kimber, director and editor of the American Gospel films, to discuss the newest installment, American Gospel: Spirit & Fire, an 18-episode documentary series examining the New Apostolic Reformation.

We talk about the defining beliefs of the NAR, including modern-day apostles and prophets, claims of new revelation, the five-fold ministry, prosperity theology, and the movement’s understanding of spiritual authority. We also discuss why many leaders associated with these teachings reject the NAR label, and how Christians can evaluate the movement based on its actual theology and practices rather than labels alone.

We also dig into one of the biggest questions listeners had after my previous episode: What exactly is a “NAR song”? Brandon explains how NAR theology can find its way into worship music through Bethel Music and other ministries, and we discuss how Christians and church leaders can think carefully and biblically about the songs they sing.

Finally, we address the growing intersection between NAR leaders and conservative politics, the danger of compromising gospel clarity for political influence, and why faithfulness to the biblical gospel must remain central.

If you’ve been wondering what the NAR is, how to identify it, or why Spirit & Fire was created, this conversation will help you understand the movement and the theological concerns surrounding it.

Have you ever wanted to share the gospel with a Muslim but felt intimidated because you don’t know enough about Islam?

In this episode, I’m joined by Elle ISO, who regularly engages Muslims through street evangelism and apologetics. She shares practical ways Christians can begin meaningful conversations, ask good questions, explain who Jesus is, and respond when they don’t know the answer.

We also discuss some of the key differences between Christianity and Islam, the Islamic dilemma, questions surrounding Muhammad, common objections Muslims raise against Christianity, and some of the biggest barriers Muslims face when considering the gospel.

You don’t need a degree in Islamic theology to have a meaningful conversation with a Muslim. You need to know the gospel, be willing to ask questions, and be prepared to point people to Jesus.

What does the Bible actually teach about church leadership—and what happens when a pastor is treated as “God’s anointed man” whose board exists to strengthen his hand rather than hold him accountable?

In this episode, I respond to anepisode of the Resurge podcast hosted by pastors Josh Howerton and Josh McPherson, in which they lay out their vision for building a “wartime church.” I compare their model of leadership with the New Testament qualifications and responsibilities of elders and deacons, Jesus’ teaching on servant leadership, and the biblical warnings against domineering leadership.

I also explains why I connected aspects of their leadership model with the New Apostolic Reformation and address criticism that I should have handled my concerns privately under Matthew 18.

Rather than asking you take my word for it, I encourage Christians to listen to the full context, open their Bibles, and ask a crucial question: Is this how the New Testament describes leadership in Christ’s church?

In this episode, I’m joined by Monique Duson and Phoenix Hayes to react to viral clips about abortion, progressive Christianity, gender ideology, and more. But the conversation takes an unexpected turn when we dive deep into spiritual warfare. How do Christians discern what is actually demonic? Are we supposed to rebuke demons, engage them, or simply ignore them? And what does it look like to take spiritual warfare seriously without seeing a demon behind every bush?

We also talk about the deeper issue underneath so many of today’s cultural battles: What does it mean to be a human person created in the image of God? From abortion to transgender ideology, we explore what happens when our culture loses a coherent foundation for answering that question.

This conversation went places none of us expected—and it gets practical, theological, and pretty hilarious along the way.

After my recent appearance on Alex Clark’s Culture Apothecary, the backlash came fast. Candace Owens featured clips from our conversation on her show, accusations of “Christian grifting” started flying, and a discussion about biblical forgiveness sparked a firestorm of its own.

In this episode, I’m responding—not to every insult or comment, but to some of the bigger issues underneath the controversy. What does the Bible actually mean by forgiveness? Does forgiveness require repentance? What should Christians make of Jesus’ words, “Father, forgive them”? And how do we distinguish biblical forgiveness from simply releasing bitterness or resentment?

I also take a closer look at what I call “confident mocking”—when ridicule, accusations about motives, and sheer certainty can masquerade as an argument. We’ll talk about conspiracy culture, intuition versus objective truth, the burden of proof, and why “asking questions” doesn’t automatically make a claim reasonable or true. Most importantly, how can Christians practice real discernment without becoming mockers ourselves?

Finally, I respond to a couple of questions from recent episodes about deconstruction, including the relationship between faith in Christ and faith in Scripture—and why our ultimate foundation must be the person and authority of Jesus Christ.

At the end of the day, this isn’t about winning an internet fight. It’s about truth, humility, discernment, and keeping the gospel of Jesus Christ at the center of everything.
