New Horror Movies Ep. 179: Dead Man Still Walking - Weapons (2025)

    2026/04/29 | 54 mins.
It's alive! Your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast shambles back into your ears once again — Dead Man Still Walking, starring the ever-insightful (and occasionally curmudgeonly) Dr. Walking Dead himself, Kyle William Bishop! In this episode, the good doctor is joined by none other than special guest Jay of the Dead for a thoughtful — and at times boisterous — discussion of "Weapons" (2025). In this edition, Dr. Bishop digs into a provocative question: Is Weapons actually more of a "true" zombie film than even the works of George A. Romero? It's a bold claim, and one that sparks plenty of analysis about what really defines a zombie narrative, beyond just shambling corpses and apocalyptic backdrops.
That said, it's not all praise. Dr. Bishop shares some pointed gripes, chief among them his distaste for the film's title, "Weapons," which he argues undersells the thematic depth and complexity of the story. But where the film truly wins him over is in its non-linear narrative structure, a storytelling approach he absolutely loves and champions throughout the episode. Meanwhile, Jay of the Dead brings his own observations to the table, noting how the characters in Weapons are united by a pervasive and unsettling theme: powerlessness. Whether facing societal collapse, personal limitations, or existential dread, the film's characters struggle against forces far beyond their control — a hallmark, perhaps, of the most effective zombie storytelling. Join Dr. Bishop and Jay of the Dead for another unforgettable trek into the undead.
Notes: This episode contains major plot spoilers for Weapons, so proceed with caution if you haven't seen it yet! This episode was recorded on August 14, 2025.

New Horror Movies Ep. 178: Welcome to Derry Season 1 and a Tribute to Joe Bob Briggs

    2026/04/05 | 2h 20 mins.
Happy Easter! He lives! The Tomb Is Empty! It's finally time for Episode 178 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, an atypical show with some live, "in-the-field" recordings. The show begins with an on-location excursion to "Burgertory," a Horror-themed restaurant in Salt Lake City, where a few of the Horror Avengers and Grisly Gus sample some macabre burgers! While they're out on the town, they review the zombie flick, "We Bury the Dead" (2026), which Dr. Walking Dead describes as a "post-zombie film" that reconsiders the undead as something more than monsters. Jay refers to it as a "Zzz Zzz Zombie" movie. These live segments also include an excerpt of a live jam session where the boys cover, "Careless Whisper," featuring Dr. Bishop on saxophone and lead vocals!
The second half of the episode transitions into spoiler territory with the Main Event: a full review of "It: Welcome to Derry Season 1" by Ron Martin and Dr. Walking Dead. And finally, the episode closes in a unique and heartfelt fashion, with Jay of the Dead's Tribute to Joe Bob Briggs following the cancellation of "The Last Drive-In" after seven seasons on Shudder. When it's all said and done, Episode 178 stands as a memorable and unconventional installment that blends Horror discussion, live music, theatrical outings, and tribute into one distinctive experience. We hope you enjoy it. Join us!

    New Horror Movies Ep. 177: Ron Martin's 50 for 50 Horror Special - Volume 1 of 5

    2026/02/27 | 1h 27 mins.
In Episode 177 of Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies, everyone's "favorite Horror Avenger," Ron Martin — The Cassandra of Horror Podcasting — embarks on a milestone celebration unlike any other. As Ron celebrates his 50th birthday today, February 26, 2026, he has committed to a bold and personal cinematic quest: watching 50 Horror movies that he has never seen before during his 50th year! But this isn't just a random assortment of rewatches or comfort-viewing classics. No — this is Ron Martin we're talking about. The mission is simple, yet daunting: As noted above, every film must be a Horror movie that Ron has never seen before. That's right. No repeats. No safety nets. Just long-overdue "Must-See Horror Movies," overlooked essentials, and a few glaring blind spots that Ron himself admits he's slightly embarrassed to have missed.
Ron Martin's 50 for 50 Horror Special is a series that will unfold across five total episodes, with 10 mini reviews per show. In each installment, Ron delivers concise, thoughtful, and often fiery reactions — complete with ratings and recommendations — as he works to "fill in the holes" of his Horror-watching résumé. Selections may come from anywhere: physical media, streaming platforms, theatrical releases — the only restriction, again, is that Ron hasn't seen them before. It's a courageous and fascinating undertaking for a lifelong Horror authority. So, join us for Volume 1 of 5 as Ron begins his 50 for 50 Horror journey — confronting some "classics," challenging expectations, and continuing his relentless pursuit of Horror truth versus Horror myth!

New Horror Movies Ep. 176: Dead Man Still Walking - Ziam (2025)

    2026/02/25 | 14 mins.
It's time for your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast, better known as Dead Man Still Walking — typically a solocast starring the inimitable Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop! During this 59th edition of DMSW, Dr. Bishop is recording from inside a tent (in the late summer of 2025), participating in Girls' Camp! Hey, even if he's not the fastest or cleverest girl at Girls' Camp, he's always the prettiest! Nah, our dear professor is just a great dad and a salt-of-the-Earth individual who selflessly volunteers to chaperone and volunteer as "Bear Bait," in case the young teens are attacked in the wilderness of Utah. Kyle is so cool, he essentially recreates a "Dead Serious Horror Challenge" from the old HMP days and watches scary movies at night in his tent, movies that also occur out in the wilderness.
Anywho, here in Dead Man Still Walking, Dr. Kyle William Bishop reviews a Netflix Original, Action Martial Arts / Science Fiction / Zombie flick from Thailand called Ziam (2025) — as in "Zombie Siam" or "Ziam." But using his technical definition, Dr. Bishop would not call "Ziam" much of a Horror movie, despite its zombie monsters because it has hardly any suspense or tension. It is mostly Action (with an empowered protagonist), which is not conducive to promoting fear within viewers. Even so, it's fun to hear Dr. Bishop talk about watching this film during his camping adventures. Listen!
Note: This episode was recorded in August 2025.
