Darrell Gwynn was one of the fastest men in drag racing — until one crash changed everything. He lost his arm. He lost the use of his legs. But somehow, he didn't lose himself.

This week, Kenny Wallace sits down with the NHRA legend for a conversation that goes way beyond racing. Gwynn opens up about the wreck that ended his career, the outpouring of support from the NASCAR and racing world that got him through it, and how he turned tragedy into a mission — becoming a car owner and a lifeline for others living with paralysis through his philanthropic work.

Then the guys get into some of the nuances of drag racing, why motorsports struggle to get butts in the seats, and whether racing as a whole needs to get a lot more entertaining if it wants to survive.

Gwynn also pulls back the curtain on his new book, Fortunate Son — stacked with never-before-seen photos that sent him straight down memory lane. In his words: "The book isn't a racing book; it's a book about a racer."

This week on Herm & Schrader, Ryan Preece's walk-off Daytona win to punch his ticket into the Chase, and trying to decipher on what the Wood Brothers meant about Josh Berry with a message that could have been a ‘backhanded compliment.’ They then turn to how Mark Martin’s ‘campaign’ to reward consistency over wins knocked SVG out of the Chase.

The guys are also trying to figure out why Jimmie Johnson picked this moment to finally say something about Carson Hocevar with a post on X both complimenting – and criticizing Number 77 – and then, almost like he read it, Hocevar wrecked with 5 laps to go.

The conversation turns to Denny Hamlin’s first-place-finish in the regular season and for the first time since the Chase began, NASCAR didn't give him a trophy for it -- so the Denny Bros 3D printed him one instead.

Plus, a quick conversation as to whether or not Cleetus McFarland is actually ready for the Gateway Dome Nationals in St. Louis, Tom Cruise is back in the garage as Days of Thunder 2 looks like it might actually be happening, and of course the guys end the show on a high note with junky jokes.
