- Every time a pro wins with a quirky move, it shows up on the lesson tee the next week.... the bowed wrist, the foot hop, the "swing that will revolutionize golf." We all love an outlier, and we all think we're one magic bullet away. In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb break down why copying those moves is the fastest way to wreck your golf swing, and what you should be stealing from tour players instead.
The real answer is their mindset and how they practice: low ball counts, rehearsal swings, verifying every feel against Gears, TrackMan, or video instead of trusting feel alone, and practicing with a plan rather than reacting to the last shot you hit. We get into honest swing-change timelines (why a tour coach will tell a player it might take two years), the 1%-a-day math, the ladder to unconscious competence, why bad concepts are the easiest to ingrain and the hardest to undo, Tony Ruggerio's 3x5 note card system, and why filming your on-course swing — not your basement swing — is the only way to see what you're actually changing.
Get good at the basics. That's where 95% of them live. Timestamps below.

17:32 95% of pros live on the vanilla basics - You're striping it on the range, then somewhere between the range and the first tee your swing vanishes — "where did that guy go?" It happens to everyone, and in today's Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Shaun Webb and Mike Granato break down exactly why, and how to bring your range swing to the course.
We get into the false confidence of hitting the same club over and over, why you should change clubs and targets every ball ("play the course on the range"), and the number one killer under pressure: getting quick and not finishing your backswing. You'll hear the Jack Nicklaus "finish your backswing" principle, David's "miss it quick," VJ Singh's one-two-three-four count and the Tour Tempo idea, Dr. Debbie's archery drill and "second serve" philosophy for making a free first swing, plus how nerves quietly wreck your setup — Adam Scott, Nick Price adjusting to the wind, and why it's the mosquitoes that get you, not the bears.
If you play your best golf on the range and your worst on the first tee, this one's for you. Timestamps below — tell us your first-tee horror story in the comments.

#golftips #driver #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf - Launch monitor ownership among amateurs has exploded. Trackman, Foresight, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell...everyone has one at home now, and everyone is chasing numbers. Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf open the conversation with the honest working truth of every measurement tool. The launch monitor tells you what happened at impact. 3D tells you why it happened. And when you use only the former, you end up doing what tour pros used to do when Trackman first hit the scene. You Trackman your way off the tour.
The specific pitfalls hit hard. Winter indoor practice with a launch monitor produces a swing built for the simulator, not the golf course. The launch monitor only knows where straight is relative to where it's set up. You can stand on your head and put a zero path number up if you aim right. The simulator's four walls do the aiming work for you. The 550-yard par 5 doesn't. And once you see a red number, the temptation is to contort your downswing to fix a symptom while the actual cause (setup, backswing sway, spine lean) sits untouched.
Shaun tells the story of the scratch golfer he grew up playing with who was a club champion. He sliced it all around the course, but he knew exactly what the ball was going to do every time. Give him a Trackman and tell him minus 8 path is bad, and he would never have broken 100 again.
The fix is a philosophy. Understand the tool's limitations. Understand how to use the tool. Then understand how to use the data. Attack the earliest thing in the swing that is broken. Get out of the parking lot before you worry about which street to turn down. Marry the launch monitor (club and ball data) with a body measurement tool (Swing Coach app is the "launch monitor for the body"). Plus the reference to Jason Baile (2023 PGA National Teacher of the Year) at the Trackman User Conference. He gets his tour players focused on just one or two parameters instead of all 40+.

#golftips #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf #trackman #golfpodcast - Welcome to the swing confessional.
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf open up about every dumb thing they bought, built, or did in the name of getting better at golf before they had GEARS, force plates, or any way to actually measure what works. Their stories are funny, painful, and brutally honest. The kind of stuff most golf coaches would never admit to a camera.
The PVC pipe SAM 2000 ring that gave Shaun two months of shanks before his first season in Maine. The Mark Brooks strap-and-cuffs system that gave him the laterals. Mike convincing his dad to buy a brand-new Brute garbage can so he could cut the rim off and duct-tape it to the wall to swing inside. Shaun's wholesale Bob Mann's Automatic Golf rebuild two weeks before his state championship (he somehow hit 17 greens — still praising Bob Mann). The Killer B driver with the 46-inch shaft. The Viper Bite sandpaper-faced wedge. The original Medicus breakaway and the friend who bought one in a pro shop and shanked the first four approach shots of a money game with money on every hole.
Plus the methodology spectrum that traps so many golfers (one extreme to the other), the discovery that tour pros congregate in a tight "AMG window" of about 8-10 parameters, and why Shaun's nephew growing up now has access to information that Shaun and Mike spent decades wishing they had.

#golftips #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf #trainingaids #golfpodcast - "For anyone taking on the task of improving their golf swing... you have to F your feels."
Your feels are a memory. They're not a movement. They degrade over time, they're the worst possible anchor for changing a real motor pattern, and they're the number one reason why "I tried it and it didn't work" means literally nothing in a golf lesson.
Shaun and Mike from Athletic Motion Golf break down the lesson moment every golfer has been through...making a swing, being asked "did you do it?" and answering "I felt like I did" — only to pull up GEARS and see zero change. The fix is the same every time: slow down to about 45-50 mph (which feels like 3 mph), let your brain catch up with the club, actually feel the new move in real time. Then build the reps back up by 5 mph at a time.
Plus the Tiger Woods quote about feel matching real, the Hank Haney concept that you can't teach a slicer to hit it straight (you have to teach him slice to hook to good golf), the Disney Grand Prix guardrail analogy that finally explains why "outside by five" is what neutral feels like when you're stuck inside by five, and the brutal "I have five swings" lesson moment that exposes why most golfers think they have control they don't actually have.
