  • RE-ISSUE: 28. Psalm One: "Speaking up for myself wasn’t a crime."
In 2022, hip hop artist and author Psalm-One spoke to us about the abuse and mistreatment she endured at the hands of Rhymesayers Entertainment, including artists on the label. This experience led her to write the book Her Word Is Bond: Navigating Hip Hop and Relationships In A Culture of Misogyny. It was recently announced that Atmosphere, a Rhymesayers Entertainment artist will be headlining the Minneapolis State Fair, which was attended by almost 2 million people in the summer of 2024. We are re-issuing this episode as a reminder that many artists are able to continue their careers without consequence or accountability, regardless of allegations.Visit Psalm's Website: https://www.psalmonelovesyou.com Check out her book: https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1660-her-word-is-bondIf you have been on the receiving end of harm from someone: be it artist, venue owner, audience member, or someone else and would like to share your story on a future episode, please reach out to us at: [email protected] Visit our website: https://www.thisisenoughpodcast.com Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/enough.podcastFind us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@enoughpodcastenough. is a feature on Bad Copy:

  • RE-ISSUE: 68. Subtext: Jesse Lacey: A Pattern of Betrayal, Coercion, and Grooming
RE-ISSUE: Brand New has been on hiatus since numerous grooming and sexual abuse accusations were made against front-man Jesse Lacey. However, in early March, Brand New announced three reunion tour dates. These were soon followed by the announcement of a nationwide tour. In light of the band’s upcoming tour, we are re-issuing a prior subtext episode which outlines the accusations, Lacey’s behavior, and his discusses his blanket apology. "Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades" was one of the breakout songs for Long Island band Brand New but it could just as easily be a description of their long running career. The dizzying heights the band had reached in the mid to late 2000’s all came crashing down in 2017 when allegations of grooming and sexual misconduct against singer Jesse Lacey were made public. In this episode Kendra and Rich dive into some of those allegations and how little the music landscape has changed since they came to light.REFERENCES Brand New Band Controversy & Jesse Lacey Allegations Explained (The Direct) Brand New Frontman Jesse Lacey Has Been Accused Of Sexual Misconduct With A Minor (UPROXX) Two Alleged Victims of Brand New’s Jesse Lacey Detail Years of Sexual Exploitation of Minors (Pitchfork) Brand New’s Jesse Lacey Issues Statement Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations (Pitchfork) Jesse Lacey Statement (Facebook) The Story of the Woman Who Accused Brand New’s Jesse Lacey of Soliciting Child Pornography (Vulture)If you have been on the receiving end of harm from someone: be it artist, venue owner, audience member, or someone else and would like to share your story on a future episode, please reach out to us at: [email protected]Visit our website: https://www.thisisenoughpodcast.comFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/enough.podcastWatch this episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@enoughpodcastenough. is a feature on Bad Copy: https://www.thebadcopy.com
